Short answer

For most small businesses, start with Google Forms for simple surveys, then move to SurveyMonkey (from $39/month billed annually) or Typeform (from about $25–$28/month billed yearly) when you need more responses and branding. Zonka Feedback suits ongoing customer-experience programs on quoted pricing, and Hotjar suits feedback collected on your website.

Our picks at a glance

Prices are as of October 2026, from each vendor’s own pages. Where a vendor doesn’t publish a price, we say so.

1. Google Forms

Why it made the list: For a quick customer survey, Google Forms is the simplest place to start. You can pick from multiple question types, add logic so later questions depend on earlier answers, use your colors and images, and send responses straight to a Google Sheet. If you already use Google Workspace, it’s part of the same account.

The catch: It’s a form tool, not a feedback program. Google describes forms, quizzes, response charts and export to Sheets, not satisfaction tracking or follow-ups, so an ongoing program means extra work in Sheets. Google’s Forms page doesn’t list a separate price, so check current terms for business use.

2. SurveyMonkey

Why it made the list: SurveyMonkey gives the most responses for the money among the paid picks. Advantage Annual is $39/month ($468 a year) for 15,000 responses a year, and Premier Annual is $139/month for 40,000. The free Basic plan lets you test it with up to 10 questions per survey.

The catch: The only month-to-month plan, Standard Monthly, costs $149/month for 1,000 responses a month. Team plans start at $30 per user a month with a 3-user minimum. Responses over your limit are billed at up to $0.15 each.

3. Typeform

Why it made the list: Typeform shows one question at a time, which feels more like a conversation than a form. That suits short post-purchase or post-visit surveys. Basic includes 100 responses a month and 1 seat; Plus includes 1,000 responses and 3 seats. There’s a free account to try it.

The catch: Response caps are low for the price. The pricing page showed two different sets of prices when we checked (Basic at $28 or $25 a month on yearly billing), so confirm the current price. At 100 responses a month, a busy shop or restaurant will outgrow Basic quickly.

4. Zonka Feedback

Why it made the list: Zonka Feedback is built for continuous customer-experience programs rather than one-off surveys. Its own materials describe pricing that includes AI analysis in the base price. It suits businesses that want to track satisfaction scores over time, not just run the occasional survey. See our Zonka Feedback review.

The catch: Pricing is custom and on request. Zonka’s own comparison article puts typical mid-market programs at $2,000 to $20,000 a year, which is more than a small single-location business needs. Its site advertises a 14-day trial with no credit card, so you can test before talking to sales.

5. Hotjar

Why it made the list: Hotjar collects feedback from people while they’re on your website, through on-site surveys. Its Ask plans are sized by monthly responses: Basic allows 20, Plus 250 and Business 500. That’s useful when you want to know why visitors leave a page or don’t buy.

The catch: Hotjar’s pricing page now redirects to Contentsquare’s, and we couldn’t confirm current paid prices, so check the current price. It only reaches website visitors, not customers who bought in person or by phone.

How we chose

We looked at each tool’s published plans as of October 2026 for a small business that wants to hear from customers regularly. We compared:

  • Cost per response. Response caps vary from 100 a month to 15,000 a year at similar prices.
  • Free plan or trial. You should be able to run a real survey before paying.
  • Ease of setup. Non-technical owners need to build and send a survey in an afternoon.
  • Ongoing vs one-off. Some tools are built for occasional surveys, others for steady satisfaction tracking.
  • Where customers are. Email and text links, in-store, or on your website.

What to skip

  • Enterprise survey platforms. If a vendor only offers demos and annual contracts, it’s likely priced for large companies. Start with a self-serve tool.
  • Month-to-month billing for a year-round survey. SurveyMonkey’s Standard Monthly plan costs $149 for 1,000 responses a month, while Advantage Annual is $39 a month for 15,000 responses a year. If you’ll survey customers all year, annual billing costs far less.
  • Long surveys. Customers abandon long forms. Three to five questions is enough for most small-business feedback.
  • Feedback with no follow-up. Collecting complaints and doing nothing makes things worse. Decide who reads the responses and how fast you’ll reply.
  • Mixing private feedback and public reviews. Surveys tell you what to fix; public reviews help new customers find you. For the second job, see review management software and how to get more Google reviews.

To share what you learn with your audience, pair feedback with a social tool from our best social media management tools list. If you’d like a feedback survey built and connected to your email or CRM, we can get it set up.

Questions people ask

What is customer feedback software?

It’s a tool for asking customers what they think and collecting the answers in one place. That ranges from one-off surveys to ongoing satisfaction scores (NPS or CSAT) and feedback widgets on your website. The right type depends on whether you ask occasionally or continuously.

Is SurveyMonkey free?

SurveyMonkey has a free Basic plan, but it limits surveys to 10 questions and 3 collectors, and you can only view a set number of responses per survey. Paid individual plans start at $39/month on annual billing ($468 a year).

How much does Zonka Feedback cost?

Zonka Feedback uses custom pricing on request. Its own comparison article says mid-market customer-experience programs typically pay $2,000 to $20,000 a year. Its site advertises a 14-day full-access trial with no credit card.

What’s the difference between Typeform and SurveyMonkey?

Typeform shows one question at a time in a conversational style and caps responses per month (100 on Basic). SurveyMonkey caps responses per year on annual plans (15,000 on Advantage). Typeform’s Basic plan is cheaper; SurveyMonkey gives far more responses for the money.

How do I get more customers to leave feedback?

Ask soon after the purchase or visit, keep it to a few questions, and tell people what you changed because of earlier feedback. For public feedback, a simple review request works better than a long survey.
