Short answer

As of October 2026, Google Workspace Business Starter costs $7 per user per month, Business Standard $14 and Business Plus $22 on the Annual plan. The month-to-month Flexible plan costs $8.40, $16.80 and $26.40. Enterprise is quote-only. Gemini AI has been included in Business plans since January 2025.

Plans at a glance

Google Workspace sells four business editions. Three have published prices. Enterprise is sold by quote. Every price is per user, per month, in US dollars, as of October 2026.

Annual vs Flexible. The Annual plan is the cheaper rate, and you can pay it monthly or yearly. The catch: you can add users any time, but you can only remove them at renewal. If you cancel early you still owe the full year. The Flexible plan costs 20% more, bills monthly, and lets you add or remove people whenever you like with no cancellation penalty.

What changes between plans. Starter covers business email on your domain, Drive, Docs, Sheets and Meet. Standard is where most small businesses land. It adds Meet recording, transcripts, breakout rooms, polls and noise cancellation, plus far more storage. Plus adds Google Vault for eDiscovery and Meet attendance tracking.

Gemini. Google began including Gemini in Business and Enterprise plans in January 2025, and stopped selling the old Gemini add-ons. Starter gets Gemini in Gmail (help me write, proofread) and the Gemini app. Standard and Plus add Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chat and Calendar, plus higher usage limits.

What you’ll actually pay

Here’s the math for two typical businesses. These are list prices before tax and before any new-customer promotion.

A 3-person business

PlanAnnual planFlexible plan
Business Starter$21/mo ($252/yr)$25.20/mo ($302.40/yr)
Business Standard$42/mo ($504/yr)$50.40/mo ($604.80/yr)

For three people, the jump from Starter to Standard is $21 a month. That buys recording, 2 TB of storage each, and Gemini across Docs and Sheets. If you run client calls on Meet, Standard usually pays for itself.

A 10-person business

PlanAnnual planFlexible plan
Business Starter$70/mo ($840/yr)$84/mo ($1,008/yr)
Business Standard$140/mo ($1,680/yr)$168/mo ($2,016/yr)
Business Plus$220/mo ($2,640/yr)$264/mo ($3,168/yr)

At ten people, Annual saves $336 a year on Standard compared with Flexible. Pick Annual only if your headcount is steady. If you hire seasonally, Flexible is often the cheaper choice once you count licenses you can’t drop.

Hidden costs and add-ons

  • Your domain. Workspace needs a domain name for email. If you don’t own one yet, budget for it. See domain search and hosting plans.
  • The Annual lock-in. Paying for a departed employee’s seat until renewal is the most common surprise. Google’s help pages are clear that you can’t remove Annual licenses mid-term.
  • New-account limits. On the Flexible plan, accounts under 90 days old are capped at 20 to 50 users. Adding more needs a manual prepayment.
  • AI add-ons. Gemini is included, but Google also sells an “AI Expanded Access” add-on for heavier use. Check current price before you buy it.
  • Booking pages. Business Starter gets one appointment booking page. Multiple schedules, email reminders and paid bookings need Business Standard or higher. That matters if you were planning to drop a scheduling tool. See our Calendly alternatives.
  • Archiving and legal hold. Vault only comes with Business Plus. If you’re in a regulated field, price Plus from the start.
  • Setup time. Moving old email, setting up DNS records and training staff takes hours. That’s labor, not a line on the bill, but it’s real.

Is the free plan enough?

There is no free Workspace plan for businesses. A free personal Google account gives you Gmail, Drive, Docs and Meet, but your address ends in @gmail.com. Free Meet calls with three or more people end after 60 minutes and cap at 100 participants. You also get just one booking page.

For a solo operator testing an idea, that can work for a while. Once you send invoices or talk to clients, an address on your own domain looks more credible and keeps company email under company control. Our guide to business email on your own domain covers the options.

Cheaper alternatives

  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic. $7 per user per month, paid yearly. It includes Outlook email, 1 TB of OneDrive per user, Teams, web and mobile Office apps, Microsoft Bookings and Copilot Chat. Desktop Office apps need Business Standard, which is $23.50 with Copilot. See Google Workspace vs Microsoft 365 and our Microsoft 365 review.
  • Zoho Workplace and Zoho Mail. Zoho Mail has a free plan for up to 5 users on one domain, with 5 GB of mail each. It doesn’t include IMAP or POP access, so you’re tied to Zoho’s apps. Paid Workplace plans are cheaper than Google’s on paper. Check current price on Zoho’s site. If you already use Zoho CRM, read our Zoho One review.
  • Email only. If your team just needs mailboxes, the email bundled with a hosting plan can cost less. You lose shared Drive, Meet and Gemini.

Our take

For most small businesses, Business Standard on the Annual plan is the right buy. It’s $14 a user, it includes Meet recording and Gemini in the apps you use daily, and 2 TB per person means storage never comes up. Choose Starter if your team mostly uses email and rarely meets online. Choose Flexible if headcount moves around. Skip Plus unless you need Vault or 500-person meetings.

Questions people ask

How much does Google Workspace cost per user?

On the Annual plan, Business Starter is $7, Business Standard $14 and Business Plus $22 per user per month. On the Flexible plan, with no commitment, they’re $8.40, $16.80 and $26.40. Enterprise pricing is by quote.

Is Gemini included in Google Workspace?

Yes. Google started including Gemini features in Business and Enterprise plans in January 2025, replacing the old paid Gemini add-ons. Business Starter gets Gemini in Gmail and the Gemini app. Business Standard and up add Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, Chat and Calendar.

What’s the difference between the Flexible and Annual plans?

Flexible bills monthly and lets you add or remove users any time, with no penalty to cancel. Annual is about 17% cheaper per user, but you can only remove licenses at renewal and you owe the full commitment even if you cancel early.

Is there a free version of Google Workspace for business?

No. A free personal Google account gives you Gmail, Drive and Meet, but not email on your own domain. Free Meet calls with three or more people end after 60 minutes.

How many users can Business Starter have?

Business Starter, Standard and Plus are each capped at 300 users. Above that you need an Enterprise edition, which has no user limit.
